One of my favorite things about extended family sessions is getting everyone together in one place, especially when there are grandparents, parents, and little ones all in the same photo!
This sweet family wanted to have some memories together while staying at the JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort. We had three generations, little kids, a baby, and even another little one on the way!
We started with different family combinations, from each individual family to grandparents with their grandkids, couples portraits, and of course, photos of everyone together. I always try to make sure everyone gets their own special photos, not just one big family picture.
Now, when you're photographing a big family with little kids in the middle of a Florida summer, you definitely have to be a little flexible haha

Something I love doing with younger kids is turning photos into games. We'll have little races, see who can run the fastest, or just talk about their favorite toys and dinosaurs. I find that once kids feel comfortable around me, everything becomes so much easier, and parents can relax a little too.
And if someone needs a water break or a few minutes to cool down, no problem! That's usually when I'll photograph the adults or another part of the family. That way, we keep things moving without making anyone feel rushed.
We spent an hour taking photos around the resort and on the beach, finishing with the prettiest Marco Island sunset.
It was such a sweet evening, and I loved getting to photograph so many different moments and family combinations. Seeing everyone together, laughing, playing, and enjoying the evening is exactly what makes these sessions so special to me.
And honestly, I think the photos speak for themselves!
